This is one of the oldest questions humankind has been asking themselves. Even though our ancestors never specifically written down as a step by step process, they very well knew and did these during their lives.
Have you ever thought about this question?
I bet you have noticed at least your bad days.
I like to think it this way, whatever keeps me in a good mood is what keeps me ticking.
I prioritize my well being.
And I believe most millennials prioritize well being as an important aspect of their lives.
Then the question is, what keeps us in a good mood.
I am a curious person.
From my observation along with trial and error of various methods, I have narrowed it down to 3 key factors. The point isn’t to rub my findings in your face. The point is to understand that you don’t need to be a know-it-all expert to live a great life. Here it goes:
1. Move
Our bodies are designed for movement. In earlier days, that was how we lived, hunting, and searching for food. But, since we have had great advancements in tools and technologies, our lives became easier than ever. Our lifestyle has changed significantly.
Even though we still have certain instincts of our forefathers, our lifestyles are considerably different.
We are not moving as much our bodies are supposed to.
“I move, therefore I am.” – Haruki Murakami
This is not a major deal to stress on, because we all know what to do, make some extra moves.
2. Create
We can link this factor to our lifestyle as well.
I have spent countless hours of my life as a consumer. Be it goods, content, information.
It is easier than ever today to consume stuff. If I need something, I use my Amazon app and order, they deliver it at my doorstep. If I need to watch a movie, I open Netflix and have countless options. If I need to know what’s happening around, I can tune into Youtube, news, live streamings, etc. These are wonderful tools as it made my life 100 times easier.
The reality is, there is someone who works on the other side, creating awesome content for me to consume, craft products for me to use, cover the area to deliver news to me. That’ll amazing.
Realizing this fact, I thought to myself, can I create something of value for people around the world to consume? We become the producer of the value proposition while doing that. We become aware of the numerous possibilities to create our unique value in this world.
3. Meet
On a fundamental level, humans are social beings. We have an innate quality to connect with other human beings.
90% of the best memories I have were with people around me. You might be wondering about the 10%, these were my solitary moments. There is this amazing feeling, mixed up with all the emotions, you get in some situations when you are with your close ones. I don’t think any materialistic things can bring in that joy.
We are living in the social media age. we have endless possibilities to connect with people. But the true effectiveness is in taking these connections to the next level, meeting these people in reality.
I had some remarkable conversations that happened over a coffee. There were a quite number of inspiring late-night conversations. When we share our feelings, it won’t deplete, rather it gets multiplied.
So make time to meet your loved ones.
“Happiness is only real when shared” – Chris McCandless
I have gradually improved on these factors which lead to a gradual increase in my overall well being. Let’s do some moves, create something awesome and share it when we meet our loved ones!
