The best way to see a change happen is to incentivize it.
Why do I say that?
We have a lot of rules in our society to make the functions better.
We have fines if we litter.
We have fines if we park in no-parking areas.

Not just for the societal rules.
I remember getting punishments for wrongdoings as a child.
No kidding!
Yes, you had that too!
If we eat too much sugar, that might affect our health.
We know facts.
So we follow them even though we’re not really happy with the process.
I just want you to think in an alternative way.
If we have systems that incentivize the good, then we don’t feel like doing the best thing as a task.
We all would happily do it, even if there is no specific rule attached.

What do you think?
You’re driving around to a mall. You have great parking spots 50m away from the mall. Also, you have a walkway through some lush green areas to the mall.
Do you mind parking 50m away?
Or
You have promised your kid a sweet every day for completing his/her homework.
He/she would be more than happy to do them without dreading the task.
We see a lot of awareness of climate change.
It requires a collective effort for bringing in a change in areas like these.
Rewarding people and businesses that do stuff from a positive angle on climate change work much better.
We’re seeing many initiatives on that line too.
Yes, some businesses are exploring these ‘rewards for becoming’ better space.
CRED‘s business model is an apt example.
It rewards people who pay their credit card bills on time.

I do think that the rewards system for the change we are seeking works better.
No, these are not a replacement for laws.
It works for me better somehow!
And I hope it works for you too…
I would love to know your thoughts on this.
